Position Summary:
The athenaOne Platform Support Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day support, configuration, and optimization of the organization’s athenaOne (athenahealth) electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) platform, including athenaClinicals, athenaCollector, and athenaCommunicator. This role serves as the primary point of contact for end-user issues escalated beyond the initial help desk, coordinates directly with athenahealth Client Support, manages platform configuration and access, and partners with clinical, revenue cycle, and operations teams to keep athenaOne workflows running smoothly and securely.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide Tier 2 support for athenaOne issues escalated from the help desk, covering clinical documentation, scheduling, billing, and patient portal (athenaCommunicator) functionality.
• Triage, log, and track incidents and service requests through resolution in the IT service management (ITSM) platform, meeting defined SLAs.
• Serve as the primary liaison with athenahealth Client Support / Managed Services for platform issues, enhancement requests, and release coordination.
• Configure and maintain athenaOne workflows, clinical templates, order sets, rules, scheduling templates, and role-based user permissions.
• Support practice management functions within athenaOne, including charge capture, claims edits, eligibility checks, and ERA/EOB payment posting.
• Coordinate testing of athenahealth’s recurring platform releases in the test/sandbox environment before changes reach production.
• Manage user provisioning and deprovisioning, role-based access control, and periodic access reviews within athenaOne.
• Partner with clinical informatics, revenue cycle, and operations stakeholders to gather requirements for workflow builds and system enhancements.
• Develop and maintain end-user documentation, quick-reference guides, and training materials for athenaOne functionality.
• Deliver or support end-user training for new hires, workflow changes, and platform updates.
• Monitor athenaOne system performance and interface health (e.g., HL7 interfaces to lab, imaging, and ancillary systems), escalating interface failures as needed.
• Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for platform outages or data discrepancies.
• Support compliance and audit activities related to HIPAA, HITECH, and other regulatory requirements as they apply to athenaOne data and access.
• Stay current on athenahealth’s product roadmap, release notes, and ambulatory EHR/PM best practices.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of experience supporting athenaOne (athenaClinicals, athenaCollector, athenaCommunicator) or a comparable ambulatory EHR/PM platform (e.g., Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, NextGen).
• Working knowledge of ambulatory clinical and revenue cycle workflows: scheduling, registration, charge capture, claims, denials, and patient billing.
• Experience with ITSM ticketing platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Ivanti Neurons, Jira Service Management).
• Solid understanding of HIPAA privacy and security requirements and healthcare data confidentiality standards.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical documentation skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for clinical and administrative end users.

Preferred Qualifications:
• athenahealth certification(s) (e.g., athenaOne Certified User or Administrator) strongly preferred.
• Experience with HL7 interfaces or healthcare data integration engines.
• Familiarity with athenaOne Report Builder or similar reporting/analytics tools for data extracts.
• Prior experience in a multi-specialty medical group, hospital ambulatory network, or health system IT department.
• Experience supporting EHR optimization projects or go-live initiatives.
